Pleiogynium timoriense – Burdekin plum

APPEARANCE : Australian QLD native tropical rainforest tree growing to 12 metres in garden settings, and up to 20 metres in its natural habitat. Large dark leaves; and a gently weeping habit on branches. Produces plum-coloured plum-sized edible fruit.
USE FOR : Plant as a shade creating feature or screen. Attracts native wildlife. Buchtucker fruits which can be eaten raw when ripe or used to make jam, wine and chutney.
PLANTING : Plant in full sun for longest flowering and fruiting. Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Tolerates dry conditions and light frost once established.
CARE: Prune after fruit has finished to encourage dense growth habit and a bumper crop of berries next season. Apply a native slow release fertiliser during spring.
HEIGHT & WIDTH: 12-20 m H x 3-7 m W.
